Home care services in Maryland
Non-medical support with everyday life, so an older adult or an adult with a disability can keep living safely and comfortably at home.
What home care covers, and who it helps
Home care — sometimes called non-medical home care or personal care — is help with the ordinary tasks of daily life that keep someone safe and comfortable in their own home. It is the bathing, dressing, meals, company, reminders, tidying and transport that make the difference between managing at home and not. It is delivered by trained caregivers, usually in visits from five hours to a full day, and it can flex up or down as things change.
The care described on this site is not skilled nursing or medical treatment. Selectives caregivers do not give injections, change sterile dressings, or make clinical decisions. When those things are needed, we’ll say so and help you find the right provider — and we can work alongside a home-health nurse or hospice team so the day-to-day support continues around the clinical care.
Families come to Selectives at all sorts of moments: after a fall or a hospital discharge, when a diagnosis like dementia changes what’s needed, when the spouse who has been doing everything is worn out, or simply when a parent living alone stops feeling safe there. Some need a few hours a week for companionship and errands. Others need daily personal care, long shifts, or live-in support. Many start small and add hours later. The purpose of a first, no-obligation conversation is to work out honestly which of those fits — and what it would cost.
Care agreements run for a minimum of three months, with two weeks’ notice required to cancel the agreement. Visits have a five-hour minimum and no weekly minimum. Please give 24 hours’ notice to change or cancel a visit; there is no late cancellation fee.
Selectives Home Care is a licensed Maryland Residential Service Agency (RSA-02896), regulated by the Maryland Department of Health’s Office of Health Care Quality.
