Accessibility
Many of the people who use this site are older adults, or are arranging care under stress. It should work for everyone, including people using assistive technology.
Our commitment
We want every part of this website — reading about our services, checking whether we serve your area, and asking for care — to be usable whatever device, browser or assistive technology you use.
The standard we build to
We aim for this site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. In practice, that means we have built the site so that:
- It works with a keyboard alone — every link, button, menu and form field can be reached and operated without a mouse, and the focus indicator is always visible.
- It works with screen readers — pages use correct headings and landmarks, images have descriptive alternative text, and form fields have real labels.
- Text is large and readable — the base text size is 18 pixels, text can be resized in your browser without breaking the layout, and body text meets the AAA contrast level against its background.
- The whole site works with JavaScript turned off — you can read every page and use every phone number, address and form.
- Motion is kept minimal, and animation is reduced automatically if your device is set to “reduce motion.”
- Tap targets are large — at least 48 pixels, and larger for the main buttons.
- It reflows to a single column on small screens down to 320 pixels wide, with no side-to-side scrolling.
Known limitations
We are not finished, and a few things are still being worked on:
- The map on the Contact page is provided by Google Maps and loads only when you choose to activate it. If it is hard to use, the address is written in full on the page and the phone number reaches a person who can give directions.
- Any downloadable documents (for example a family guide, if one is added) will be checked for accessible tagging before publication.
- Every meaningful photograph has descriptive alternative text, and purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- This site has not yet had a formal third-party accessibility audit. We intend to arrange one.
If something doesn’t work for you
Please tell us. Call 443-847-4057 or email [email protected], Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and:
- Describe the problem and the page it happened on, and we will work to fix it.
- Ask for any information on this site in another format — read to you over the phone, sent by post, or in large print — and we will provide it.
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within[X] business days.
Ongoing work
We test the site as we build and update it, and we treat accessibility problems as defects to be fixed, not requests to be queued. This statement will be updated as the site changes.
